Budrich anniversary: “This has been a dynamic and fruitful collaboration. I enjoyed it.”

Yves Schemeil for our 20th anniversary

For 20 years, your publishing partner for the social sciences: In 2024, Verlag Barbara Budrich celebrates its 20th year anniversary! Here, we will share stories about what has shaped and moved the publishing house in early and in later years, featuring contributions from our partners and celebrating with you here on our blog and across our social media channels. In this post, Yves Schemeil is to share about our collaboration.

Dear Yves Schemeil, could you please introduce yourself briefly to our readers?

I am a university professor of political science and international studies, with a focus on global and comparative politics. I have taught in Paris, Grenoble, Aix, Beirut, Tokyo, UCLA, and Berkeley. What best defines my vision is the use of a mixed methodological toolkit. I take my inspiration from my own discipline, of course, but I also draw on economics, history, anthropology, and psychology. My research addresses international organizations, intercultural negotiations, and public debates about hot issues. My approach combines visions from the West, Asia (northeastern and southwestern), and the Middle East.

How long have you known Verlag Barbara Budrich? How did the first contact come about?

Contacts were established during the many international conventions to which the publisher exhibited its books, and Barbara herself discussed with potential authors. This was a pleasant way to think about a possible contribution to your catalog!

Is there anything you particularly remember about working with us?

Your open-mindedness on the content of the book, your flexibility about deadlines, your constant assistance with editing the text, your encouragement to disseminate the conclusions of my research.

How would you summarize the collaboration with us in one sentence?

This has been a dynamic and fruitful collaboration. I enjoyed it.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?

Readers of the book have praised its cover design. I have been surprised by the many ways to make my research known, including this interview! For instance, it is very smart to offer readers the possibility to review the book and win a copy of it. I hope they will.
