Über „International Perspectives on the History of Early Childhood Education“

How does the interplay between family, institution and profession characterise early childhood education worldwide? In this volume, the authors analyse the historical and theoretical developments in early childhood education from an international perspective. They show how different national educational approaches and state interventions influence the relationship between the family and the education system in times of globalisation. The volume offers an in-depth look at the challenges and opportunities arising from local and global educational practices.

The volume explores the question of how the relationship between family, institution and profession in early childhood education has changed over the centuries and what role state intervention and social developments have played in this. The focus is on an international approach that combines both historical and theoretical perspectives. In modern societies, especially since industrialisation, the function of the family as the primary place of socialisation has changed radically.
